About Me:

After years of living with his family in the city of Ul’dah, Sabath learned at a young age what tragedy meant as he lost his mother and sister in the ensuing chaos brought forth by the Seventh Umbral Calamity. With his mother passing before his eyes and being separated from his sister, he found himself wandering alone through the deserts of Thanalan. He searched first for his sister, then for his father who was an adventurer fighting against the Garlean Empire. In order to make enough to live, he first turned his attention to adventuring, slowly learning the ways of Thaumaturgy from the guild in Ul’dah, committing their practices to heart and working towards the strength he desired to reunite his fractured family. After a year of failure to join a party, partially due to his race and partially due to his choice of practice, he turned his back on the path his parents had forged. He left his life as an adventurer behind, using his remaining gil to purchase what books he could on Thaumaturgy as well as what meager rations could survive him for the coming weeks. He set off wandering the land, hunting animals for their meats to eat and pelts to sell, frequenting inns and taverns to listen to the strife of others. He found his appearance and practice, while making him an outcast for most of society, made him the perfect individual to hire for less than scrupulous work. He found he worked well as a mercenary for hire, sometimes working within groups, mostly working alone. Four years after the tragic loss of his family, he had grown cold and detached from the idea of family, friends, or even comrades. He saw individuals more as tools for the mission’s success. He sealed himself off from forming any attachments, but one day a job led him to a small village in the outskirts of Thanalan that laid in ruins. Searching the rubble for any supplies he could take, he found instead the figure of a small Miqo’te girl laying among the lifeless corpses of the village. Despite all odds, the young girl remained alive and Sabath brought her along, making a long feared return to the city that brought him such misery.Weeks went by of Sabath trying to find someone to take in the young orphan named Marin’ja Coltra, but he found the young Miqo’te girl grew attached to him. Despite his best attempts, he found himself growing attached to her as well in the weeks following their arrival to Ul’dah. Sabath decided to raise little Marin’ja, hoping to prevent her from turning out like he had, although he would be loathe to admit it. He tried to find more steady work in the city, but by that point had grown a reputation that would precede him. After a month, he took Marin’ja and left the deserts of Thanalan until he found a new “home” in the forest of the Black Shroud. He turned away from the gruesome work he had come to know for almost three years, and began to make due by hunting wild animals, much as he had done in the past. His practices found him at odds with the conjurers of Gridania, making only enough peace to allow him to raise Marin’ja to have a peaceful life within the embrace of the forest. After a few years, Sabath found himself forced to fall back on his old ways in order to make ends meet, although turning down the darker jobs he used to relish. He continued refining his use of black magic, growing stronger as time passed, although finding himself at ever growing odds against the Gridanian people, he existed detached from others, taking solace and comfort only in his care for Marin’ja.
